About Premier's Choice
The Chinese name for Premier's Choice Luan Guapian should be recognizable to older generations. This tea is famous because it was Zhou En-Lai's favorite tea.
Unlike most Green teas, Luan Guapian is leaf only, no buds, despite being a spring pick. The absence of buds during a spring pick means that this tea has much more body than your typical Green. This also means that it is complicated and expensive to make Luan Guapian.
Understandably, the Chinese have been worried about losing the art of making this tea. Consequently, they have been recording its production process to preserve its unique style and methodology for generations to come.
