Title

Please Note: We will be in China and Japan to meet with farmers and merchants from March 29 - May 16. Orders made now will not be processed until the week of May 16!

Scarlet Robe (Da Hong Pao) is a beautiful Oolong Tea (WuLong Cha) from Zheng Yan, Wuyi Shan, Fujian Province with a minerally, roasted, floral taste and a full, drying, viscous mouthfeel.

Like all of our teas, we only source the "Grand Cru" version of Scarlet Robe (Da Hong Pao) through our exclusive relationships with the most sought after tea farmers in China.

About Scarlet Robe

Scarlet Robe (Da Hong Pao) is the most famous of the Wuyi rock teas.

A very specific processing method goes into making Da Hong Pao. The method behind Da Hong Pao makes it rare, which is why most shops don't sell the real Da Hong Pao. Instead, they label their best rock teas as Da Hong Pao. Of course, this isn't the case at Sophie's!

About The Region

We source our Da Hong Pao from a growing region in Northern Fujian province that the UN has designated as a World Heritage site. This area has been famed for tea growing for over a thousand years! In fact, Monks first invented Oolong tea here over four hundred years ago.

Northern Fujian is unique because its volcanic soil produces a mineral taste in the tea grown here.

Drinking Experience

Scarlet Robe smells full bodied and roasted. Beneath the roasted smell, you may even pick up on a slightly floral aroma.

When brewed properly, your tea liquor should have a deep amber appearance.

Taking your first sip, it'll be hard to miss Scarlet Robe's full, viscous mouthfeel. You'll also notice a distinct dryness, as well as flavor notes of minerality, roastiness, and slight floral.

Drinking Scarlet Robe should leave you with a familiar, warming feeling. After each sip, our Da Hong Pao's unique flavor will linger for a long time.
